HEALTH CARE OPT-OUT
"Effective January 1, 2023, benefit eligible unit-members not electing to participate in the District's health insurance program, on a calendar year basis (January 1-December 31), due to health insurance out of District will be eligible for a $1,000 opt-out payment for each calendar year they decline such coverage.
To be eligible for the opt out payment, each year, the Unit Member must inform the District of his/her intention not to participate in the District's health insurance plan by December 1st of the prior year. Newly hired unit members will be given this opportunity at the time of hire.
Unit members must also provide proof of other health insurance coverage outside of the District to be eligible for the opt-out payment.
If during the calendar year, a unit member has a qualifying event which requires him/her to access health insurance through the district, the unit member will be allowed to enroll in accordance with the rules and regulations of the insurance provider. The unit member's opt-out payment will be prorated at that time. The unit member will not be eligible to go back to an opt-out payment for the remainder of that calendar year.
Opt-out payments will be made annually in the final paycheck in December at the conclusion of the opt-out year.
